MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Centenary University softball team was tripped up in both games on day one of it's Spring Break trip in Myrtle Beach.
No. 24 Gettysburg used a big first inning to secure an 8-1 win over the Cyclones in game one of the day. King's staged a seventh inning comeback for a 14-6 win over Centenary in game two.
Game One Recap (Gettysburg Won 8-1):
Gettysburg jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the bottom of the first.
Olivia Moser and
Elliana Hopple each had a two-run double in the frame.
Centenary got one back in the second as
Sandra Cosenzo reached on a single and came around to score on a wild pitch.
Gettysburg put single runs on the board in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the fifth and secured the 8-1 win.
Paige Forry earned the win for the Bullets as she did not allow a hit and walked just one in four innings of relief action.
Roxana Gonzalez took the loss for Centenary as she surrendered five runs on five hits in 0.1 innings.
Cosenzo had a hit and a run scored for the Cyclones while
Toni Cacopardo reached twice via a walk.
Moser and Hopple each had a hit and two RBIs for the Bullets.
Game Two Recap (King's Won 14-6):
King's opened up the early lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning.
Centenary got one of those tallies back in the bottom half of the frame.
Courtney Deloughery scored on a wild pitch after reaching on an error.
The Monarchs pushed their lead to 5-1 with three runs in the top of the second.
The Cyclones came alive with four runs in the bottom half of the frame which tied the game at 5-5.
Maggie Lenahan reached on a fielders choice which allowed the first run to score.
Janaya Gaetan then crossed the dish on a passed ball.
Centenary tied the game up as
Jenna Glinko connected on a base knock up the middle for a two-run single.
The Cyclones were not done yet as Deloughery's third inning single plated
Dara Murphy for a 6-5 lead.
The fourth through sixth innings belonged to the pitchers as neither team could get anything else on the board.
Julia Campen had four strikeouts for the Cyclones during that stretch.
King's exploded for nine runs in the top of the seventh to take a 14-6 lead. Four wild pitches helped the Monarchs score a pair of runs while
Kiersten Krouse had a two-run single.
Centenary was unable to get anything going in the bottom of the seventh and King's claimed the win.
Emily Novicki earned the win in the circle as she gave up six runs in the complete game performance. Campen took the loss after giving up nine runs while striking out eight in six innings.
Glinko had three hits and two RBIs for the Cyclones while Deloughery added two hits and two runs scored.
Jenna Garofalo had the first two hits of her career.
Krouse had three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored for King's.
Centenary is back in action on Monday, March 7 when it takes on Penn State Abington at 1:30 p.m. and Eureka at 5:30 p.m.
