Softball Takes Two On Day Two of Spring Break Trip

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Maggie Lenahan doubled home two runs in the bottom of the eighth against Eureka to help the Centenary University softball team complete a comeback and earn its second win of the day on the team's Spring Break trip.

A balanced attack led Centenary to an 8-2 win over Penn State Abington in game one of the day. In the Eureka contest, Madison Passanante had three hits and four RBIs to help the Cyclones earn the win.

Kelly Ann Earrusso earned the win in relief in both games for the Cyclones.

Game One Recap (Centenary Won 8-2):
Centenary jumped out to an early lead in this one with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Toni Cacopardo had an RBI single and later came around to score.

The Cyclones added to their advantage with three runs in the bottom of the third. Sandra Cosenzo had an RBI double and later scored on Passanante's base knock. Passanante came home on Jenna Garofalo's ground out.

Penn State Abington took two runs back in the top of the fourth and made it a 5-2 game.

The Cyclones put a single run on the board in their half of the fourth which made it a 6-2 game.

Centenary tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to close out the 8-2 win. Savannah Hettman had an RBI groundout and Chloe Wright roped an RBI single.

Earrusso tossed 3.2 innings of relief work to earn the win as she did not allow a hit. Elyssa Bohr took the loss for the Nittany Lions after giving up eight runs on 10 hits.

Wright had two hits and an RBI for the Cyclones while Courtney Deloughery added two hits and a run scored. Cacopardo and Cosenzo each had a hit, an RBI and two runs scored.

Game Two Recap (Centenary Won 9-8 in 8):
The Cyclones found themselves down early in this one Eureka scored six runs in the top of the third inning. The big blow came from Tressa Grishman, who had a two-run triple.

Centenary began its comeback in the bottom of the fourth. Passanante had a two-run double to center and Wright had an RBI single to score her.

Eureka extended its lead to 7-3 with a run in the top of the sixth.

The Cyclones pulled to within two, 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Cosenzo reached on a fielders choice and came around to score before Lena Lutcza had an RBI groundout.

Down to their final out in the bottom of the seventh, the Cyclones turned to Passanante. She delivered her second two-run double of the game, and the two sides were tied at 7-7.

Eureka put a run on the board in the top of the eighth and the Cyclones had one last chance.

The first three batters of the inning reached for the Cyclones. Lenahan then roped a two-run double to left center for the 9-8 win.

Earrusso earned her second win of the day in relief. She went six strong innings and gave up four runs on eight hits. Sidney Wightman took the loss for Eureka after giving up nine runs on 13 hits.

Passanante was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored for the Cyclones while Lenahan added two hits and two RBIs.

Centenary will be back in action on Wednesday, Mar. 9 when it battles Salem (N.C.) at 11:30 a.m. and PSU Mont Alto at 1:30 p.m.
