Women's Basketball Falls To Immaculata in Atlantic East Playoff Action

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Senior Taylor Bossert scored a game-high 22 points but a big second quarter allowed No. 2 Immaculata University to pull away from the No. 7 Centenary University women's basketball team for a 62-43 win in the first round of the Atlantic East Conference playoffs on Monday night.

Centenary jumped out to an early 6-2 lead on a basket from sophomore Salma Eddahiri at the 6:43 mark.

The two teams traded points as a jumper from junior Carmen Escano put the Cyclones on top, 8-7 with 3:43 to go in the period.

Immaculata scored eight of the final 10 points in the period and took a 15-10 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Immaculata had the hot shooting hand in the second quarter as Reese Mullins scored eight points and Abigail Lentowski had five. The host Mighty Macs took a 36-14 lead at the break.

Bossert scored 13 of her points in the third quarter to highlight the action for the Cyclones. Immaculata led the game, 47-32 after three periods of play.

The two teams continued to battle throughout the fourth period but Immaculata was able to maintain its double-digit advantage and claim the 62-43 lead.

Centenary shot 25.9% from the floor and was 11-for-15 from the foul line in the contest. Immaculata shot 31.3% from the field and was 14-for-19 from the foul line. The Mighty Macs held a 49-43 edge in the rebounding battle.

Bossert added four assists and two steals to go with her 22 points for the Cyclones. Escano and senior Victoria Jacobs led the Cyclones on the boards as they each had 11. Jacobs also had eight points and two steals.

Lentowski led Immaculata with 14 points and seven rebounds.
