HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Three members of the Centenary University field hockey team were named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Scholars of Distinction on Thursday afternoon.

The Cyclones honored were sophomores Eve Foote and Hailey Rowe along with graduate student Victoria Abucewicz.

The Scholars of Distinction program recognizes student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative grade-point average of 3.9 or higher through the first semester of the 2021-22 academic year.

"I am so proud of our Centenary University Field Hockey student-athletes who have been recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) as "Scholars of Distinction" for their exemplary academic achievements in 2021," said head coach Stephen Speirs. "In the words of Albert Schweitzer, '...If you love what you are doing, you will be successful'."

Speirs added, "In my opinion, success is also connected with dedication and commitment. Dedication and commitment to education as a student and dedication and commitment on the field as an athlete. Our Centenary student-athletes love what they are doing in the classroom and on the playing field, and they achieve academic and athletic success through their commitment and dedication. They never give up, and they never quit. They should be an example to all Division III student-athletes!"

Foote is an English major who appeared in 11 games and made three starts for the Cyclones. Rowe is a business marketing major who started all 14 games and tied for the team lead with three assists. Abucewicz is in the clinical counseling program who started 13 games and recorded a defensive save while helping to anchor the back line.
