WILLIAMSPORT, PA. – The Centenary wrestling team opened up the dual-match portion of its schedule at the Lycoming College Rennie Rodarmel All State Duals, winning a pair of matches, 22-16, to Cortland and, 24 -23, to host and 25th-ranked Lycoming.
 
In their opening match versus Cortland, the Cyclones started strong, 13-6, midway through the match. The Cyclones opened with a 10-0 major decision from Jack Thode (Harrington, Del.) at 125 pounds before Cortland junior JC Cardenas (Brooklyn/Grand Street Campus), ranked first in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Mideast Region and fourth by D3wrestle.com at 133 pounds, earned his eighth pin of the season against freshman Danny Haws (Lenape Valley, NJ) 
 
Your Cyclones won the next three weight classes to build their lead. Xavier Pena (Bound Brook, NJ), ranked second in the Mideast Region and seventh by D3wrestle.com, handed Cortland junior Cahal Donovan (Marietta/Marcellus) his first loss of the season with a 4-0 decision at 141 pounds. Donovan entered the bout ranked third in the Mideast Region with a 14-0 record. Mark Venson (Bound Brook, NJ) and Cameron Bruffy (North Haledon, NJ) followed with close decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively.
 
Cortland answered with a 4-3 decision from sophomore Hunter Hughes (Selden/Newfield)  at 165 pounds and a 15-6 major decision from Nick Ross (Woodstock/Onteora) at 174 pounds to even the match at 13-13. Justin Hopman (Monroe, NJ) followed with a late pin at 184 pounds, and Keevon Berry (Mays Landing, NJ) scored the decisive points in the match with a 16-10 decision at 197 pounds for Centenary. Freshman Dalton Deevey (Milton, Del.)  was able to keep the match close 4-1, against all of 285 Senior Dylan Houseknecht (Odessa/Odessa-Montour) which closed the match out with a decisive win over Cortland 22-16. 

The final match was against #25 Lycoming University, which was a barn burner of a match. The match started with a high-scoring bout at 125 where first-year Jack Thode (Harrington, Del.) lost a close one 18-16.  Freshman Danny Haws (Lenape Valley, NJ) came back with vengeance getting a fall 1:16.  Xavier Pen (Bound Brook, NJ) currently ranked 7th in the Nation followed by a fall in 57 seconds. Lycoming punched back with a fall of their own Kobin Karper (Lycoming)  pinned Mark Venson (Bound Brook, NJ) in 1:57, but senior Camerons Bruffy (North Haledon, NJ) , followed with a decision, and fellow Senior Perry Maio (Kittatinny, NJ) followed through with a decision of his own.  174lbs Eli Crum was able to sneak a win over So. Angelo Piazza (Glen Rock, NJ) with a 5-2 decision.  The match of the night was at 184lbs, where both indivudals were matched equally, but short time left, Justin Hopman (Monroe, NJ) was able to secure a fall in 6:28.  The next two matches were Lycomings hammers, with Keevon Berry (Mays Landing, NJ) able to save a team point in order to secure the Cyclones victory.  Dalton Deevey (Milton, Del) wrestled well but was just overmatched with the senior Nationally raked HWT.
