HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A goal with seven seconds to go allowed Neumann University to slip by the Centenary University men's soccer team and claim a 3-2 victory in the regular season finale for both squads.
Both sides had their chances early in the first half.
Kevin Velasquez Mejia made three saves for the Cyclones in the first 33 minutes of the game while the offense had several chances that went just wide.
Neumann broke through and got the scoring started at 44:34. The Knights were awarded a corner kick and
Matt Ryan scored off a ball inserted by
Alex Pobre.
Centenary found the answer just four seconds before the half.
Kex Helmer settled a ball off his knee in front of the goal andÂ
Matt Paterno was able to drive it home.
That goal allowed the Cyclones and Knights go into the half tied at 1-1.
Both teams fired off shots to start the second half.
Centenary grabbed a 2-1 lead in the game at the 61:40 mark as
Harison Samayoa Lopez scored off a pass from
Brian Osorio.
The Cyclones and Knights continued to battle on both ends of the field.
Neumann got the equalizer at 84:45 as
Javier Mejia rifled off a hard shot that got by Velasquez Mejia.
Chris Siemien picked up the assist on the tally.
Jake Kuzmick scored the game-winner for Neumann with just seven seconds remaining. The visitors claimed the 3-2 victory.
Seth Walker made one save in the win for Neumann. Velasquez Mejia finished with seven saves for the Cyclones.
Centenary has earned the fifth seed for the Atlantic East Tournament. The Cyclones will travel to No. 4 Immaculata on Saturday, Oct. 29 for a 1 p.m. game.
