Taylor Bossert scored a team-high 17 points and junior
Carmen Escano had a double-double to lead the Centenary University women's basketball team in a 60-44 loss at Marymount University on Wednesday night.
The Cyclones jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the game as Escano scored all six of those points.
A pair of free throws from Bossert at 4:14 gave the visitors a 9-4 advantage.
Marymount responded with a 9-0 run of its own to close out the first period and took a 13-9 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Claire Smith had four points in that run.
Centenary scored three of the first five points in the second period and cut the Marymount lead to three, 15-12 with 7:13 to go until the half.
The two teams continued to battle on each end of the court over the next several minutes. A 6-0 run featuring a jumper from senior
Molly Collins pulled the Cyclones to within four, 24-20 with 1:43 left on the clock.
Marymount scored the final five points of the period and took a 29-20 lead at the break.
The two teams traded baskets to start the third period. Escano's bucket at 5:04 made it a 33-26 game in favor of the home team.
Marymount took a 42-30 lead after three periods of play.
A pair of buckets from Bossert to open the fourth period made it a 42-34 game.
The two teams continued to battle over the final stanza as Marymount claimed a 60-44 win.
Centenary shot 41.7% from the field and was 12-for-17 from the foul line. Marymount shot 43.4% from the field and was 11-for-21 from the charity stripe. The Saints held a 33-26 advantage in the rebounding battle.
Bossert contributed 17 points for the Cyclones while Escano powered in her eighth double-double of the year. The junior finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds while adding two steals.
Smith led Marymount with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 15 when they host Neumann at 3 p.m.
