Pereira Has a Career-High in Saves to Lead Field Hockey at Sweet Briar

AMHERST, Va. – Goalkeeper Jenyfer Pereira made a career-high nine saves but it was not enough as the Centenary University field hockey team fell to Sweet Briar in it's season and Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opener on Saturday morning.

Sweet Briar took a 6-0 lead at the break and eventually claimed a 9-1 victory over the Cyclones.

Brigitte Gorman scored three goals in the first half for the Vixens while Avery Jones had a goal and two assists.

Pereira made six saves in the first 30 minutes of the contest, including four in the first quarter.

Sweet Briar tacked on two more goals in the third quarter and took an 8-0 lead in the game.

The Cyclones finally broke through at the 57:46 mark as midfielder Keirra Doyle scored off an assist from midfielder Hailey Rowe.

Sweet Briar snuck one more goal in to make the final score 9-1.

Janie Bolling made one save to earn the win in goal for Sweet Briar. Pereira turned away nine shots for the Cyclones.

Centenary has a quick turnaround as it heads to FDU Florham tomorrow, Sept. 5 for a 3 p.m. game.
