Edge and Yilmaz Power Men's Soccer to 2-0 Win at Clarks Summit

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Freshman Thomas Edge scored his first career goal in the first half to help the Centenary University men's soccer team earn a 2-0 win at Clarks Summit University on Wednesday afternoon.

"A lot of hard work throughout helped us get the win today," said head coach Josh Spivack. "It's always a tough place to play but the boys focused in and did their jobs today."

The Cyclones applied the pressure early with two shots in the first five minutes of the contest.

Edge put the visitors on the board in the 13th minute as he fired a ball home. Fellow freshman Matt Paterno and senior Jahn Lopez picked up the assists on the play.

Centenary continued to battle and just 48 seconds before the half was able to add to its advantage. Junior Mahir Yilmaz buried a pass from freshman Andres Casanova in the back of the net.

The Cyclones carried the 2-0 advantage into the break.

The two teams continued to fight on both ends of the field in the second half.

Centenary fired off nine shots in the second 45 minutes but was unable to find the back of the net.

Sophomore Nick Lupo made two saves in the second half to help secure the 2-0 win for the Cyclones.

Lupo made three saves to secure the clean sheet win for the Cyclones. Kristian Figueroa made five saves in the loss.

Yilmaz had his team leading fifth goal of the year in the game for the Cyclones. Edge and Casanova each recorded their first collegiate points in the contest.

Centenary is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 2 as Atlantic East Conference play begins. The Cyclones host Gwynedd Mercy at 3:30 p.m.
