Field Hockey Bested by William Paterson

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Goalkeepers Jenyfer Pereira and Emma Cahill combined for 14 saves but it enough as William Paterson University bested the Centenary University field hockey team on Friday afternoon.

William Paterson jumped out to a 2-0 lead after finding the back of the net twice in the first 15 minutes of the contest. Kristin Freas-Papa converted a penalty stroke opportunity in that frame.

Adrian Dieckman scored two of the three goals in the second period as William Paterson took a 5-0 advantage at the half.

Pereira made eight saves in the first half of the game for the Cyclones.

William Paterson added two more goals, one in the third and one in the fourth, for the 7-0 victory.

Centenary's best chance came in the third period as Michaela Thiessen took one in but Grace Farnan made the defensive save to keep the Cyclones off the board.

Emily Hoagland and Kourtney Hartzel combined for the shutout win for the Pioneers. In addition to Pereira's eight stops, the Cyclones got six saves from Cahill in the second half.

It's a quick turnaround for the Cyclones as they are back in action on Saturday, Oct. 9 with a trip to Marywood for a 6 p.m. game.
