Field Hockey Tripped Up at Notre Dame

BALTIMORE, Md. – A pair of fourth quarter goals allowed the Notre Dame University field hockey team to slip past the Centenary University field hockey team and claim the 2-0 win in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.

Notre Dame registered all four shots in the first quarter but two were blocked and Jenyfer Pereira saved one.

Centenary took four shots in the second period but was unable to find the back of the net. Michaela Thiessen had a pair of shots for the Cyclones.

The Cyclones and Gators went into the half knotted at 0-0.

Both teams had their chances in the third period but Pereira had a save for the Cyclones and Jensen Armstrong made two for the Gators. The game remained tied at 0-0.

Notre Dame got on the board just 10 seconds into the fourth quarter as Vanessa Dunn found the back of the net.

The Gators added to their lead at the 49:41 mark as Jaime Ballard scored off a pass from Dunn.

The Cyclones were unable to get anything else going as Notre Dame claimed the win.

Armstrong made four saves to earn the win in goal. Pereira finished with three saves in the loss for the Cyclones.

Centenary returns to action when it hosts Lancaster Bible on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. The Cyclones will honor seniors Christine Manser, Keirra Doyle and Danika Brandt before the game.
