LA PLUME, Pa. – Freshmen
Janne Rowan and
Carmen Escano combined for 18 points and 27 rebounds as the No. 5 Centenary University women's basketball team fell to No. 1 Keystone College in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Semifinals on Wednesday night.
Keystone jumped out to a 24-6 lead after one period of play and earned an 68-47 win.
Mac Oribello scored 11 points in the first period to help the Giants open up the early advantage.
Centenary scored five of the first seven points in the second quarter as Escano had a traditional three-point play. Keystone led 26-11 with 7:11 to go until the half.
A triple from sophomore
Taylor Bossert made it a 30-16 game with 3:13 showing on the clock.
The two teams traded baskets over the final three minutes of the quarter as Keystone took a 35-18 lead at the half.
The Cyclones and Giants traded baskets throughout the second half but Centenary was unable to overcome the Keystone halftime advantage.
The Giants claimed the 68-47 victory.
Keystone shot 36.4 percent from the field and went 12-for-22 from the foul line. Centenary posted a 32.2 field goal percentage in the game and made 3-of-4 chances from the foul line. The Giants held a 44-43 edge in the rebounding battle.
Rowan led the Cyclones after posting her first career double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Escano added eight points and 13 boards while junior
Danika Brandt contributed 12 points off the bench.
Bella Lamonea led Keystone with 25 points while Oribello had 13 points.
Centenary concludes its 2019-20 season with 15 wins and returns all of its top five scorers next season.
