Men's Basketball Falls in Regular Season Finale at Bryn Athyn

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Forwards Tom Weiler and Billy Veras each posted double-doubles but it was not enough as the Centenary University men's basketball team fell at Bryn Athyn College, 84-80 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday night.

Despite the loss, the Cyclones wrapped up the regular season with a 17-8 record overall and a 12-2 mark in CSAC action.

"We didn't play very well tonight," said interim head coach Jason Geleski. "Bryn Athyn played harder than we did, and they earned the W tonight."

A pair of early three-pointers allowed Bryn Athyn to open up a 6-2 lead with 18:51 to go in the period.

Centenary responded with the next five points in the contest and took a 7-6 lead with 15:39 remaining in the stanza. Veras had four points in that stretch.

The Cyclones and Lions traded points over the next several minutes as a three-pointer from junior Chris LaBelle at 9:41 gave the Cyclones a 20-17 edge.

The two teams continued to battle Veras poured in six points to give the Cyclones a 33-29 advantage with 3:19 to go in the half.

Bryn Athyn closed the half on an 11-6 run and took a 40-39 lead at the break.

A traditional three-point play from LaBelle at 18:26 pulled the Cyclones to within one, 43-42.

Bryn Athyn pushed its lead to six, 48-42 at the 17:30 mark.

Centenary scored nine of the next 11 points and a claimed a 52-50 advantage with 15:27 to go. LaBelle had five points in that stretch.

The Cyclones and Lions continued to battle as the home team pushed their lead to nine, 63-54 with 12:21 showing on the clock. Haybert Louchie had a pair of three-pointers in that stretch.

Centenary battled back as a three-pointer from sophomore Harrison Lucibello at 8:01 tied the game at 63-63.

A jumper from Veras at 6:20 gave the Cyclones a 67-65 edge.

Bryn Athyn scored eight straight points and took a 73-67 lead with 3:14 showing on the clock.

Centenary scored seven of the next 13 points and cut the Lions' advantage to three, 79-76 with 25 seconds to go. Weiler had three points during that stretch.

Bryn Athyn went 5-for-6 from the foul line in the final 20 seconds to hold off the Cyclones and claim the 84-80 victory.

Bryn Athyn shot 41.5 percent from the field and knocked down 13 three-pointers in the game. Centenary posted a 46.5 field goal percentage but was able to connect on just four three-pointers in the contest. Centenary won the rebounding battle, 49-37.

Veras paced the Cyclones with a season-high 28 points and 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double and fourth of the season. Weiler contributed 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds for his third double-double in the last four games and fourth overall.

LaBelle contributed 17 points and five assists while freshman D'Angelo Blackmond had 17 points and six rebounds.

Okoye Taylor led Bryn Athyn with 34 points and four assists.

The Cyclones are back in action when they begin the CSAC playoffs on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Centenary, which earned the number one seed for the first time in program history will host the No. 4 seed that will be determined by Saturday's action.
