LA PLUME, Pa. – Freshman
Carmen Escano recorded her fourth double-double of the season, but it was not enough as the Centenary University women's basketball team fell at Keystone College, 67-42 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday night.
Keystone quickly jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter on a bucket from
Khaliah Gordon at 7:01.
Centenary scored seven of the next 12 points and pulled to within six, 13-7 with 4:13 to go in the period. Escano had five of the seven points during that stretch.
The Cyclones and Giants traded points as a three-pointer from sophomore
Victoria Jacobs made it a 19-14 game with two minutes remaining in the period.
Each team scored two more points in the period as Keystone took a 21-16 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Centenary scored the first four points of the second quarter and cut the Keystone advantage to 21-20. Sophomore
Caitlyn Reyes had a bucket for the Cyclones at 8:32.
A 10-0 run by the Giants gave the home team a 31-20 lead with 4:30 remaining until the half.
The two teams traded points down the stretch as Keystone took a 43-26 lead at the break.
A three-pointer from
Bella Lamonea at 7:23 of the third quarter pushed the Giants' lead to 52-26.
Centenary scored four of the next six points as freshman
Janne Rowan was responsible for all of the Cyclone points.
Keystone took a 56-32 lead after three periods of play.
Freshmen
Devin Gibbs and
Zaniera James accounted for the first eight points of the fourth quarter for the Cyclones as Keystone led 61-40 with 4:40 to go in the game.
The two teams traded baskets down the stretch as Keystone claimed the 67-42 win.
Keystone shot 42.4 percent from the field and hit nine three-pointers in the game. Centenary posted a 28.1 field goal percentage and was 5-for-5 from the foul line. Both teams pulled down 41 rebounds in the contest.
Escano finished with 13 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Cyclones. Rowan added six points and four rebounds while Gibbs had four points and five rebounds.
Lamonea led all scorers with 17 points, five rebounds and three steals.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host Cairn at 1 p.m.
