Melissa Krueger posted her second double-double of the season to lead the Centenary University volleyball team in a tough 3-0 loss to the King's College (N.Y.) on Monday night.
The first set was a back-and-forth battle between the two squads. Centenary jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a kill from senior
Storm Spooner. King's battled back and took a 5-4 lead on a service ace. The Cyclones rattled off five straight points and took a 9-5 edge. Freshman
Emerald Richard had a pair of service aces during that run. A 7-0 run gave King's a 12-9 lead in the set. The two teams continued to battle as sophomore
Amelia Rodriguez' s service ace tied the set at 19-19. King's eventually took the set 25-23.
Five service aces helped the Lady Lions earn a 25-14 second set win and gave the visitors a 2-0 lead in the match.
King's opened up an 8-0 lead in the third set and held off a late run by the Cyclones for a 25-19 set win and the victory in the match.
Richard tied for the team lead with eight kills and added a season-high 13 digs for the Cyclones. Junior
Leandra Garcia also posted eight kills to go along with seven digs. Krueger contributed 13 assists, a season-high 16 digs and five kills while sophomore
Anabelle Olivo added nine digs.
Alex Kemsley led King's with 16 kills and five digs while
Avery Johnson had 11 kills and a match-high 21 digs.
The Cyclones are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 3 when they host Rosemont at 7 p.m.
