BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – Four different freshmen scored to lead the Centenary University field hockey team to a 5-1 win at Bryn Athyn in the season opener on Saturday.
The Cyclones, who reintroduced field hockey as a sport in November, were playing their first official game as an NCAA sponsored sport. Previously, the Cyclones had a club field hockey team.
Freshman
Isabella Tracy gave the Cyclones an early advantage as she scored off a shot from the right post at 4:02.
Bryn Athyn tied the game at 1-1 on a goal from
Eve Miller at the 12:51 mark. That was the last goal the Lions would get in the contest.
Freshman
Jordan Vandermark gave the Cyclones the lead back for good as she scored on a penalty stroke at 19:03.
The Cyclones took that 2-1 lead into the half as freshman
Sydnie Bogan made three first half saves.
Centenary added to its lead just 5:33 into the third quarter as freshman
Megan Baker notched her first tally of the year.

Lucienne Wolfson scored off a pass from Vandermark at 37:11 and extended the Centenary advantage to 4-1.
Wolfson added one more in the fourth quarter which made the final score 5-1 in favor of the visitors.
In addition to Bogan's three first half saves, the Cyclones got three big stops from freshman
Jenyfer Pereira in the second half. Senior
Dayna Wich also chipped in a defensive save for the Cyclones.
Kailey Brower made 17 saves in the loss for Bryn Athyn.
Centenary held a 33-9 advantage in shots and 12 of the game's 19 penalty corners.
The Cyclones are back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 4 when they travel to Neumann for a 4 p.m. game.
