Women's Lacrosse Celebrates Senior Day With 13-9 Win Over Cedar Crest

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day with a 13-9 win over Cedar Crest College in the season finale for both squads.

Before the start of the game, the Cyclones honored seniors Renee Hack, Nicole Soriero and Jess Petty for their contributions.

The Cyclones and Falcons went back-and-forth early and found themselves tied at 1-1 at the 28:31 mark.

Centenary used a 3-0 run to take a 4-1 advantage in the game. Freshman Amanda Tietjen scored on a free position shot before freshman Madison Barofski and Soriero found the back of the net.

Cedar Crest responded by scoring the next three goals and tied the game at 4-4 with 8:50 to go before the half. Stephanie Barr had a pair of goals for the Falcons during that stretch.

Junior Kaylee Bennett and Soriero scored in the final eight minutes of the first stanza and the Cyclones took a 6-4 advantage at the half.

Centenary scored the first four goals of the second half and took a 10-4 lead with 17:45 to go in the game. Bennett scored a pair of goals during that stretch while Soriero and junior Juliana Arias also tallied a goal.

Cedar Crest scored two out of the next three goals in the game and cut the Cyclone lead to 11-6 with 11:45 showing on the clock.

Sophomore Allison Marquez scored her first career goal and extended the Centenary lead to 12-6 with 10 and a half minutes to play.

Cedar Crest three of the final four goals in the game but the Cyclones held on for the 13-9 advantage.

Hack made 12 saves in her final appearance as a Cyclone to earn the win in goal. Allison Churchill made nine saves in the loss for Cedar Crest.

Soriero led the Cyclones with a career-high five goals while adding two ground balls and two draw controls. Bennett did a little bit of everything for Centenary as she finished with four goals, eight ground balls and six caused turnovers. Her six caused turnovers are tied for third in single-game history at Centenary. Barofski had a goal and a team-high six draw controls.

Elizabeth Fennimore led Cedar Crest with four goals and four draw controls.

The Cyclones lose their three seniors to graduation but return several key contributors including Bennett and Barofski next year.
