Softball Earns Spot in CSAC Playoffs with Doubleheader Split at Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – The Centenary University softball team clinched a spot in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Championship field with a doubleheader split at Rosemont on College on Saturday afternoon.

The Cyclones picked up a big 9-2 win in game one before Rosemont scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 7-6 win in game two.

Game One Recap (Centenary Won 9-2)
Rosemont struck first in game one with a run in the bottom of the second.

The Cyclones quickly answered back with three runs in the top of the third inning. With two outs, junior Juli Wright drove in the Cyclones' first run with single. She crossed the plate on freshman Madison Ketch's RBI double. Freshman Sandra Cosenzo added an RBI double for the 3-1 lead.

The Ravens got one run back in the bottom of the third and made it a 3-2 game.

Centenary extended its lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the fourth. Junior Jessica Hewitt lifted a sac fly to center that scored sophomore Tessa Ferentinos. Later in the frame, Wright doubled home sophomore Courtney Deloughery.

Single runs in the fifth and sixth innings pushed the visitors' advantage to 7-2.

The Cyclones weren't done yet as they put two more on the board in the top of the seventh. Deloughery doubled home sophomore Meghan Hughes before Hewitt singled which allowed Deloughery to score.

A scoreless bottom of the seventh allowed the Cyclones to claim the 9-2 win.

Hewitt picked up the win as she allowed two runs, one of which was earned on three hits in three innings of work. Sophomore Samantha Gabriele was strong in relief for the Cyclones as she went 2.1 innings and allowed no runs on four hits. Christina Broccolino suffered the loss after giving up nine runs on 18 hits in seven innings.

Hughes, Deloughery and Ketch all had three hits to lead the Cyclones at the plate. Hewitt and Wright each contributed two hits and two RBIs.

Samantha DeFrancisco led Rosemont with two hits and a run scored.

Game Two Recap (Rosemont Won 7-6)
The Cyclones struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning of game two. Junior Justine Stefura had an RBI double that allowed Ferentinos to score before Hewitt singled and Stefura crossed the plate on the play.

Rosemont responded with four runs in the bottom half of that frame and took a 4-2 lead in the game. The inning was highlighted by a two run double from Madison Hagerty.

The Ravens pushed their lead to 5-3 with a run in the bottom of the third.

The Cyclones battled back to tie the game at 5-5 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Wright and Cosenzo sandwiched RBI singles around an RBI double from freshman Kayla Morales.

Centenary took a 6-5 advantage in the top of the sixth. Deloughery reached on a one out double and came around to score on Hewitt's RBI single.

Rosemont battled back for the win with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Colleen Hall delivered a two-out single that scored a pair of runners for the 7-6 win.

Erin Gallagher earned the win for Rosemont after giving up four runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings of action. Cosenzo took the loss as she surrendered the final two runs for the Cyclones in 3.2 innings of relief work.

Hagerty and Hall each had two hits and two RBIs for the Ravens.

Hewitt had two hits and two RBIs for the Cyclones while Stefura added two hits and two runs scored.

The Cyclones are back in action when they close out the regular season by hosting Keystone for a pair of games on Sunday, April 28 at 3 p.m. Fans are advised that parking will be unavailable in the Legion Hall parking lots and all fans must be parked on the street or in the doctors office lot.
