HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Junior
Chris Howell scored a pair of man-up goals for the Centenary University men's lacrosse team in their season opener against Moravian College on Thursday afternoon.
The Greyhounds jumped out to an early 5-1 advantage and eventually claimed the 21-2 victory.
The two teams traded goals early as
Mark Laratta tallied an unassisted goal at 13:10.
The Cyclones answered back as Howell scored off a nice pass from sophomore
Kyle Mott at the 9:34 mark of the first quarter.
The Greyhounds scored the final nine goals of the first half and took a 10-1 lead at the break.
Moravian scored the first four goals of the second half before Howell struck for his second goal of the day. Once again, Howell's goal was a man-up goal and came off an assist from Mott at the 11:25 mark of the fourth quarter.
The Greyhounds eventually claimed a 21-2 victory.
Kurt Dick made three saves in the first half to earn the win in goal for the Greyhounds.
Will Dadouris made seven saves in the second half for Moravian.
Sophomore
Ryan Lacamera made 12 first half saves in the loss for the Cyclones. Junior
Noah Jones recorded six second half saves for Centenary.
Howell finished with two goals, 12 faceoff wins and 10 ground balls for the Cyclones. Mott picked up two assists while three other Cyclones had two ground balls.
Connor Hull and
Cade Siddron led Moravian with four goals and one assist each.
The Cyclones are back in action as they host Alvernia on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 12 p.m.
