HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore
Timothy Kaiser III scored three goals and added an assist as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team fell to Alvernia University by a 10-9 margin on Saturday afternoon at J.E. Reeves Jr. Field.
The Cyclones struck first in the game as Kasier III found the back of the net at the 13:28 mark.
The Golden Wolves answered with a pair of goals and took a 2-1 lead with 9:35 remaining in the period.
Goals from juniors
Chris Howell and
Gregory Weiss put the home team back on top, 3-2 with 1:10 showing on the clock.
Alvernia responded with a 4-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters and gave the Golden Wolves a 6-3 lead with 7:45 remaining until the half. That run featured back-to-back goals from
Andrew Ritchie.
Centenary broke up the run as Kaiser III scored his second of the day at the 4:08 mark.
However, the Golden Wolves got a late goal from
Thomas Fitzgerald and took a 7-4 lead at the break.
The Cyclones came out of the half playing strong as back-to-back goals from sophomore
Kyle Mott pulled the home team to within one, 7-6 with 12:26 to go in the quarter.
The two teams traded goals to end the period as Alvernia held an 8-7 edge after three quarters of play.
Centenary tied it up just six seconds into the fourth quarter as Howell struck for his second of the day.
Ritchie scored and then assisted on the next two goals of the game as Alvernia took a 10-8 lead with 6:37 showing on the clock.
Kaiser III completed his hat trick off a pass from sophomore
Nick Biango with 45 seconds to play, which pulled the Cyclones to within one, 10-9. However, that was as close as Centenary could get as Alvernia held on for the 10-9 win.
Jacob O'Donnell made 19 saves to earn the win in goal for Alvernia. Sophomore
Ryan Lacamera made 12 saves for the second straight game for the Cyclones.
Kaiser III finished with four points on the three goals and one assist for the Cyclones. Two of Kaiser III's tallies were man-up goals. Mott and Howell each added two goals while Howell contributed 22 faceoff wins as well.
Ritchie led Alvernia with four goals and one assist.
Centenary wraps up its season opening home stand when it hosts Immaculata on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m.
