LANGHORNE, Pa. – Freshman
Taylor Bossert came off the bench to score a game-high 18 points but a big third quarter lifted No. 4 Cairn University to a 70-60 win over the No. 5 Centenary University women's basketball team in the first round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament Monday night.
Trailing 7-5 in the first quarter, Centenary went on a 7-0 run and took a 12-7 lead with 2:26 showing on the clock. Bossert drained a three-pointer for the Cyclones during that stretch.
Cairn responded by scoring the next seven points and grabbed a 14-12 edge with just under a minute to go in the stanza.
Bossert connected on a pair of free throws with two seconds to go and the first quarter ended with the two sides knotted at 14-14.

Jessica McKenzie gave the Cyclones a 19-17 edge with 7:48 to go until the half.
Cairn scored the next seven points in the game and took a 24-19 advantage with 3:31 showing on the clock.
Back-to-back baskets from junior
Dayna Wich pulled the Cyclones to within one, 24-23 with 2:36 to go in the period.
The two teams traded points before a three-pointer from Bossert as the shot clock buzzer went off and 41 seconds to go in the period gave Centenary a 28-26 lead.
The Cyclones carried that two-point advantage into the halftime break.
The Cyclones and Highlanders traded baskets to start the third quarter as a triple from Jacobs at 8:40 put Centenary ahead 33-30.
Cairn went on a 7-0 run and took a 37-33 lead with 6:50 to go in the period.
McKenzie halted the Highlanders run with a lay-up at 6:35.
A jumper from
Victoria Stum put the home team on top 45-40 with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.
The two teams traded points as Cairn took a 51-42 lead at the end of three.
Buckets from McKenzie and Bossert to start the fourth quarter cut the Cairn lead to five, 51-46 with eight minutes showing on the clock.
Cairn pushed its lead to 12 before baskets from McKenzie and senior
Kayla Rowan made it a 64-56 game with 2:15 showing on the clock.
The two teams battled down the stretch as Cairn claimed a 70-60 win.
Cairn shot 48 percent from the field in the contest and went 20-for-24 from the foul line. Centenary finished the game with a 39.3 field goal percentage and was 6-for-8 from the charity stripe. Cairn held a 40-26 lead in the rebounding battle.
Bossert added four rebounds to go with her 18 points for the Cyclones. McKenzie contributed 16 points and three rebounds while Jacobs had 10 points and six rebounds.
Kendra Stum led Cairn with 17 points and five rebounds.
The Cyclones lose Rowan to graduation but return their top three leading scorers next season.
