CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Centenary University field hockey team made 29 saves in the regular season finale at Wilson College in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
Despite falling to the Phoenix by a 7-0 margin, the Cyclones qualified for the upcoming CSAC Tournament after posting a 3-3 mark in conference play. Centenary will be the number four seed for the tournament and travel to number one Keystone on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Wilson struck early in the contest on a goal from
Michaela Singer just 1:15 into the game.
The Phoenix tacked on two goals in the second period for a 3-0 advantage at the half. Freshman
Sydnie Bogan made 11 saves in the first 30 minutes of action while junior
Danika Brandt recorded a defensive save.
Singer scored a pair of goals in the third period and helped the home team take a 5-0 advantage in the game.
Bogan made seven saves in the third stanza while Brandt and senior
Dayna Wich each recorded a defensive save.
Wilson scored two goals in the fourth period to close out the 7-0 victory.
Krista Nayadley started the game in goal for Wilson and was not forced to make a save.
Allyson Shindler played the final seven plus minutes in goal and did not need to make a save.
Bogan finished with a season-best 18 saves for the Cyclones while playing the first three periods. Fellow freshman
Emma Cahill made eight saves in the fourth period for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones head to Keystone College on Wednesday for the CSAC Semifinals. Game time will be posted on CentenaryCyclones.com as soon as it's made available.
