HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Lucienne Wolfson scored a pair of goals to lead the Centenary University field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Bryn Athyn College on Saturday morning.
The Cyclones, who were playing a game for the first time since Sept. 27, improved to 2-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play with the win.
"It was great to see our field hockey student-athletes back in action today after a two-week break," said head coach Stephen Speirs. "I think we started off a little slow due to the extended break without a game, but we quickly pulled together in the second quarter and worked together to finish strong. It's always exciting to host a home conference game which I believe also contributed our high level of play and our success today."
Both teams had their chances in the first 15 minutes of the game but neither was able to find the back of the net.
The Cyclones got the board at the 22:51 mark as Wolfson scored off a pass from sophomore Keirra Doyle.
Centenary added to its lead just under two minutes later as freshman Isabella Tracy was able to tip one home.
The Cyclones took a 3-0 lead at the 28:30 mark as Wolfson scored her second of the day, this time off a pass from Tracy.
Centenary carried that 3-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Just 7:34 into the third quarter, the home team made it a 4-0 game as freshman Michaela Thiessen scored her first goal of the season off a pass from Doyle.
The two teams battled for the remainder of the game but neither team was able to score again as Centenary claimed the 4-0 victory.
Freshman Sydnie Bogan earned the win in goal as she started the game and was not forced to make a save in the first half. Fellow freshman Emma Cahill made one save in the third quarter while freshman Jenyfer Pereira didn't need to make a save in the fourth quarter. Kailey Brower made three saves in the loss for Bryn Athyn.
It's a quick turnaround for the Cyclones as they are back on the field on Sunday, Oct. 13 as they host Wells at 1 p.m.
