HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – A balanced scoring attack led the Centenary University women's basketball team to a 69-35 win over Clarks Summit University on Wednesday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
All nine Cyclones who appeared in the game scored at least one point as freshman
Carly Tarnowski led the way with a season-high 19 points. Centenary stretched its win streak to four straight games after posting their largest win since the 2016-17 season.
Clarks Summit scored the first basket of the game but Centenary responded with a 10-0 run and took the lead back. Junior
Dayna Wich scored a pair of baskets during that stretch that gave the Cyclones a seven-point lead with 6:54 to go in the first quarter.
Clarks Summit scored nine of the next 13 points in the game and cut the Centenary advantage to two, 14-12 with 3:46 to play in the stanza.
Dani Mansberger hit a pair of three-pointers during that stretch.
The Cyclones scored the final four points of the quarter and took an 18-12 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Lady Defenders opened the second quarter on a 7-5 run which made it a 23-19 game with 6:32 to go until the half. Mansberger had five for Clarks Summit during that stretch.
Centenary scored 12 of the final 14 points in the period and took a 35-21 lead at the half. Freshman
Meghan Barone keyed the scoring run for the Cyclones as she contributed eight points during that stretch.
The two teams traded baskets to start the third quarter. A three-pointer from freshman
Victoria Jacobs gave the Cyclones a 40-25 lead with 6:51 to go in the period.
The Cyclones and Lady Defenders continued to battle on each end of the court as Centenary took a 46-31 lead on a jumper from Tarnowski at 1:38.
Another Tarnowski basket to close out the third quarter gave the Cyclones a 50-33 lead with 10 minutes to play.
The two teams traded foul shots to open the fourth quarter. Centenary then went on a 13-0 run and pushed its lead to 64-34 with 2:01 to play. Tarnowski scored five during that run while sophomore
Danika Brandt and freshman
Jessica McKenzie each had four points.
Clarks Summit got a foul shot at 1:38 to break up the Centenary run. However a pair of baskets from senior
Kayla Rowan closed out a 69-35 win for the Cyclones.
Centenary shot a season-best 54.5 percent from the field and went 7-for-16 from the foul line in the game. Clarks Summit posted a 25.6 field goal percentage in the contest and was 7-for-13 from the charity stripe. The Cyclones won the rebounding battle, 45-21.
Tarnowski contributed six rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal to go along with her 19 points. McKenzie finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and two steals. Jacobs tossed in nine points while Rowan and Barone each finished with eight points. Rowan added five rebounds and two assists while Barone finished with four rebounds and three steals.
Mansberger led Clarks Summit with 21 points and two steals.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they travel to Cairn for a 2 p.m. game.
