LA PLUME, Pa. – Double-double performances from sophomore
Emmanuel Doh and freshman
Billy Veras powered the Centenary University men's basketball team to a 71-64 win at Keystone College on Friday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
The duo combined for 35 points and 25 rebounds as the Cyclones won their third straight game.
It was the home team that got off to a quick start in the game as an 11-0 run gave Keystone an 18-5 lead with 14:14 showing on the clock.
Ray Mills hit three three-pointers for the Giants during that key scoring spurt.
Five straight points from the visitors pulled the Cyclones to within eight, 18-10 with 11:35 to go until the half.
Keystone pushed its lead back to ten, 20-10 on a
Javonte Matthews' lay-up at 10:36.
Centenary responded with a 16-4 run and took its first lead of the game, 26-24 with 4:24 to go in the period. Doh and Veras each contributed seven points during that scoring stretch for the Cyclones.
Four straight points gave Keystone a 28-26 advantage with 2:56 remaining in the stanza.
The Cyclones closed the half by scoring eight of the final ten points and took a 34-30 lead at the half. Junior
Pablo Vasquez contributed six of the eight points during that run.
The two squads went back-and-forth to start the second half as five early points from senior
Tom Weiler gave the Cyclones a 39-35 lead with 18:31 to play.
A jumper from Veras at 14:34 gave the visitors a 45-39 lead in the contest.

Tyler White gave the Cyclones a 51-42 lead with 10:59 showing on the clock.
Seven straight points from the Cyclones extended the lead to 58-45 with 9:02 to go in the game. Senior
Stewart Lester made a bucket during that run while Veras drained a three-pointer.
A lay-up from Matthews at 3:15 cut the Centenary advantage to seven points, 64-57.
Each team scored seven points over the final three minutes as the Cyclones claimed the 71-64 victory.
Centenary shot 41.2 percent from the field in the contest, including 53.8 percent in the second half. The Cyclones made 10-of-14 chances from the foul line. Keystone finished the game shooting 38.8 percent from the field and made 6-of-11 from the charity stripe. Keystone held a 43-42 edge in the rebounding battle.
Veras finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the year and second 20+ point performance. The freshman also added four assists and a steal for the Cyclones. Doh posted 15 points and 14 rebounds for his third straight double-double and sixth of the season.
Freshman
Divine Anderson chipped in 11 points for the Cyclones while White came off the bench to score 10 points.
Matthews paced Keystone with 21 points and 17 rebounds in the game.
Centenary will be back in action on Monday, Jan. 21 as they travel to Hunter for a 3 p.m. game.
