HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Four players scored in double figures to lead the Centenary University men's basketball team to an 83-74 win over Rosemont College on Thursday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play.
Sophomore
Emmanuel Doh led the Cyclones with a career-high 22 points as Centenary claimed its first CSAC win of the year.
A lay-up from
Jalil Myers gave Rosemont a 9-3 lead with 15:05 to play in the first quarter. The two teams continued to battle as a jumper from
Keith Balssingale at 11:09 put the Ravens ahead 19-9.
Freshman
Billy Veras had a put back lay-up on the next possession that started an 8-1 run which pulled the Cyclones to within three, 20-17 with 9:01 showing on the clock. Veras scored half of the Centenary points during that scoring spurt.
The two teams traded baskets as
Jacob Simonson's three-pointer at 6:39 pushed the Rosemont lead back to nine, 28-19.
Centenary responded by scoring 21 of the final 24 points in the half and turned a nine-point deficit into a nine-point lead, 40-31 at the break. Sophomore
Chris LaBelle tossed in seven points during that scoring spurt while Doh had nine points.
Rosemont opened the second half on a 10-2 run and cut the Centenary lead to one, 42-41 with 16:15 to play. Myers and
Alex Epps-Ortiz each scored five points during that scoring run.
Centenary responded with a 14-2 run of its own and took a 56-43 lead with 11:40 showing on the clock. Doh knocked down seven points during that scoring spurt for the Cyclones.
A steal and a lay-up from freshman
Divine Anderson pushed the Centenary advantage to 60-45 with 10:51 to go in the game. It was Centenary's largest lead of the contest.
The two teams continued to battle as another steal and lay-up from Anderson gave the Cyclones a 67-53 lead with 8:48 showing on the clock.
A 7-0 run by the home team allowed Centenary to take a 76-62 advantage with 3:52 to go in the game. LaBelle accounted for five of the Cyclones' seven in that stretch.
The two teams traded points down the stretch as the Cyclones claimed the 83-74 win.
Centenary shot a season-best 51.9 percent from the field in the game and was 21-for-35 from the foul line. Rosemont posted a field goal percentage of 49.0 and was 17-for-28 from the charity stripe. The Cyclones held a 38-30 advantage in the rebounding battle.
In addition to his career-high in points, Doh added 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season. Veras also contributed a double-double performance as he had 17 points and 12 rebounds.
LaBelle added 19 points for the Cyclones while Anderson finished with 15 points and three steals.
Blassingale led all scorers with 29 points and five steals while Simonson had 11 points and six rebounds for the Ravens.
The Cyclones are off until Wednesday, Jan. 16 when they travel to Bryn Athyn for an 8 p.m. game.
