HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University volleyball team matched its season-high with seven service aces but it was not enough as Cairn University claimed the 3-0 victory on Wednesday night.
Five service aces helped the Highlanders earn a 25-11 first set win. Cairn used an 11-0 run to break open the second set en route to a 25-9 set win and a 2-0 lead in the match.
Centenary scored four of the first six points in the third set and took the early 4-2 advantage. Senior
Giani Montalvo had a block during that stretch. A service ace from Montalvo extended the Centenary advantage to 6-5. Four straight points for the visitors gave Cairn a 9-6 edge. A service ace from junior
Katie Alvarez pulled the Cyclones to within one, 9-8. However, that was as close as the Cyclones would get as Cairn secured a 25-15 third set win and victory in the match.
Montalvao led the Cyclones with four kills, four digs, a block and a service ace while senior
Melissa Krueger finished with eight assists and seven digs.
Lyntia Gwess led Cairn with 10 kills while
Liz White finished with 23 assists.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 3 when they host King's at 6 p.m.
