ASTON, Pa. – A balanced offensive attack and a shutout from the defense allowed the Centenary University women's soccer team to post a 4-0 win at Neumann University on Saturday afternoon.
Four different players registered a goal, as junior
Chloe Christopher led the way with a goal and an assist, which helped the Cyclones earn their first victory of the season.
The Cyclones got on the board first as senior
Amanda Benoit scored off a pass from Christopher at the 18:34 mark. It was Benoit's second goal in as many games and Christopher's team leading third assist of the season.
That was all the offense either team could muster in the first half as the visitors took the 1-0 lead into the half. Freshman
Rachel Colt and the Centenary defense were not really tested in the first half as Neumann registered just one shot in the first 45 minutes and Colt came up with the save.
The Centenary offense turned on the pressure after the break and posted three goals in the second stanza.
Junior
Stephanie Williams scored her team leading third goal of the year at 57:06, which gave the Cyclones a 2-0 advantage.
Senior
Kara LaPolice notched her first goal of the year at the 71-minute mark, which pushed the Centenary advantage to 3-0.
Christopher capped the scoring at 74:10 as she scored her first of the season off a pass from senior
Kristin Karszen.
Colt and the Cyclone defense were tested by Neumann in the second half but the Centenary netminder turned away all five shots that were on goal to preserve the shutout.
Colt finished with six saves to earn the win in goal.
Anna Attardi made nine saves in the loss for Neumann.
Centenary held a 16-7 advantage in shots in the game and finished with seven corner kicks to Neumann's two.
Centenary will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 19 when the Cyclones travel to King's for a 5 p.m. contest.
