HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Senior
Amanda Benoit had a goal and an assist as the Centenary University women's soccer team dropped a hard fought 5-3 decision to FDU-Florham on Tuesday afternoon.
The Cyclones got off to a quick start, scoring the games' first two goals and Benoit had a hand in both of those tallies.
Junior
Stephanie Williams got Centenary on the board at the 3:46 mark as she banged home a ball that Benoit passed into the box. Williams' goal was her second of the season and snapped a scoreless streak of over 195 minutes for the Cyclones.
Centenary added to its lead in the 20th minute as Benoit scored her first of the season off a cross from senior
Kara LaPolice.
FDU Florham responded by scoring the game's next four goals and took a two-goal advantage, 4-2 at the half.
Erika Pita scored a pair of goals during that stretch for the Devils.
Just over two minutes into the second half the Cyclones pulled to within one, 4-3. Junior
Chloe Christopher brought the ball up the sidelines near the team benches and chipped into the front where senior
Kristin Karszen banged it home.
FDU Florham tacked on one more goal as
Madeline Finnegan found the back of the net at 69:42.
Both teams continued to pressure but neither could find the back of the net as FDU Florham claimed the 5-3 victory.
Ashley Paulino made two saves to earn the win in goal for the Devils. Freshman
Rachel Colt made three saves in 68:50 before giving way to junior
Justine Stefura who made three saves in 21:10.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 15 when they travel to former conference foe Neumann for a 2 p.m. game.
