FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The Centenary University baseball team scored the final six runs of the game and rallied for a 6-3 win over Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Thursday afternoon.
Senior
Michael Caprari and sophomore
Jon Fleck each finished with three hits and two RBIs to lead the Cyclones to their third straight win.
Clarks Summit got on the board first as
Kegan Laman doubled to left field in the third inning, which scored a pair of Defenders.
The Defenders extended their advantage as Laman hit a home run down the left field in the fifth inning. That gave Clarks Summit a 3-0 advantage.
Centenary began its comeback in the top of the sixth as Fleck drew a one out walk and stole second. Sophomore
Ryan Jasiecki singled to left field which put runners on first and third. Senior
CJ Lyons singled which scored Fleck. Junior
JT Valley had an RBI groundout which plated Jasiecki and made it a 3-2 game.
The Cyclones turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Caprari ripped his third triple of the season to center field which scored senior
Kevin Sensale, who had reached on a walk. Caprari then crossed the plate on Fleck's single up the middle.
Centenary tacked on two more runs in the top of the ninth. Caprari had an RBI double, which scored senior
Tim Maxwell. Caprari then scored on Fleck's single to right which made it a 6-3 game.
Sophomore
Nick Scotto pitched three strong innings of relief work to earn the win on the mound. He allowed just four hits while striking out four batters. Junior
Casey Brown secured the save after striking out two in the ninth. Laman took the loss after giving up six runs on 14 hits.
Jasiecki had a game-high four hits and a run scored while Caprari and Fleck each had three hits and two RBIs. Caprari also scored two runs while Fleck crossed the plate once.
Laman finished with two hits, three RBIs and a run scored for the Defenders.
The Cyclones are back in action on Saturday, April 28 when they host Cabrini at Morris Catholic High School in Denville, New Jersey for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
