Brown's Gem Gives Cyclones Doubleheader Split with Marywood

AUGUSTA, N.J. – Junior Casey Brown allowed just one unearned run in a complete game effort to secure a doubleheader split for the Centenary University baseball team against Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.

The Pacers earned a 6-3 win in game one before the Cyclones' snapped a 12-game losing streak with a 9-1 victory in game two.

Game One Recap (Marywood Won 6-3)
Anthony Navaro's RBI single in the second inning opened the scoring in game one.

Marywood struck for three runs in the third inning and extended its lead to 4-0. Scott Becker had the big hit in that inning as he had an RBI triple and scored on a wild pitch.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the sixth as senior Kevin Sensale led off with a double and eventually came around to score on a failed pickoff play by the Pacers.

Marywood tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh and led 6-1 in the contest.

The Cyclones cut the lead in half in their final at bat. Freshman Michael Vallario led off with a double and crossed the plate on senior Tim Maxwell's one-out RBI single. Maxwell showcased his speed as he scored from first on senior John Tierney's double to right center. However, that was all the Cyclones could muster as Marywood claimed the 6-3 win.

Trevor Powers earned the win on the mound as he allowed just one unearned run in six innings of work. Colin Maldonato gave up the two runs in the seventh for Marywood. Senior James Graziani took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up six runs on 11 hits in 6.1 innings of action.

Jake Schuster led Marywood with three hits and two runs scored while Becker had three hits and two RBIs.

Sensale finished with two hits and a run scored for the Cyclones while Maxwell tallied a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Game Two Recap (Centeneary Won 9-1)
The Cyclones got on the board first in game two as Maxwell's single drove in Tierney, who had reached on a single.

Junior Ryan Jasiecki gave Centenary a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. He had a two out triple to center field and crossed the plate on a passed ball.

Marywood cut the Centenary lead to 2-1 on John Mandarano's RBI single in the sixth inning.

The Cyclones got that run back in the bottom half of that frame as senior Michael Caprari scored on a double play.

Centenary broke things open with six runs on five hits in the bottom of the seventh inning. Sensale drew a bases loaded walk to force in a run before Caprari drove in three runs with a triple down the right field line. Caprari then scored on wild pitch as all of this happened with one out. Centenary capped the scoring as sophomore Cole Fratesi's RBI single scored Jasiecki and made it a 9-1 game.

Brown was spectacular on the mound as he allowed just one unearned run on eight hits in the complete game effort. He limited the Marywood opportunities as the Pacers only had multiple runners on base in two of the nine innings.

Joey Castellani took the loss for Marywood after giving up three runs on seven hits in 5.2 innings of work.

Tierney led the Cyclones with three hits and two runs scored out of the leadoff spot while Caprari had two hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.

Schuster and Navaro each had two hits for Marywood.

The Cyclones are back in action when they host Clarks Summit on Tuesday, April 24 at 3 p.m. at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey.
