Offense Powers Cyclones to 24-3 Win Over Clarks Summit

FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The Centenary University baseball team scored at least one run in each inning en route to a 24-3 win over Clarks Summit University on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

The Cyclones scored their most runs in a game since the 2014 squad scored 30 against Marywood.

Centenary wasted little time getting to work as senior John Tierney led off with walk and scored on senior Kevin Sensale's double to left center in the first.

In the bottom of the second it was Tierney's turn to provide the RBI double. His shot into the right field corner scored junior Chase Koffel and freshman Manny Miqueo.

The Cyclones battled around in the bottom of the third and scored five runs on five hits to take an 8-0 lead in the game. The big hit in the inning came from senior Mike Dolan, who had a two-run single to right field.

Centenary scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth and pushed its advantage to 13-0. Senior Tim Maxwell and Sensale each drove in a pair of runs with singles to left field in the frame. The fifth run of the inning came as Tierney drew a bases loaded walk.

The Cyclones put four on the board in the fifth inning. Dolan had a two-run single up the middle before Maxwell deposited a two-run double in left center.

Clarks Summit made it a 17-2 game with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Ryan Clark had an RBI single before Dyllan Weaver lifted a sacrifice fly to the outfield.

Centenary got one of those runs back in the bottom half of that frame as senior CJ Lyons led off with a triple and scored on Miqueo's RBI groundout.

The Cyclones posted four more runs in the seventh inning and took a 22-2 lead in the game. Maxwell continued his hot day at the plate with a home run to left. Miqueo was hit by a pitch to force in a run before junior JT Valley hit a sacrifice fly and sophomore Cole Fratesi delivered an RBI double.

Centenary capped the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth for the 24-3 win. Sophomore Nick Scotto had an RBI single before Lyons had a sacrifice fly.

The Cyclones used six pitchers throughout the course of the game with freshman Will Kramer getting the start and picking up the win. He allowed just three hits with four strikeouts in four innings of work. Connor Kopnik took the loss for Clarks Summit after giving up 13 runs on 11 hits in four innings on the mound.

It was a balanced attack at the plate for the Cyclones as 11 players recorded at least one hit in the contest. Maxwell went 5-for-7 and was a triple short of the cycle for the Cyclones. He also had a team-best five RBIs and three runs scored. Dolan went 3-for-3 with four RBIs, three runs scored and a pair of walks.

Sensale was 3-for-6 with four RBIs for the Cyclones and will enter Thursday's game at Clarks Summit needing just two more hits to reach 100 for his career.

Miqueo went hitless in the contest but scored three times and drove in three runs. Tierney added two hits, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Noah Bailey led Clarks Summit with two hits and a run scored.

The Cyclones and Defenders will complete their season series on Thursday, April 26 with a game at Clarks Summit at 3 p.m.
