FLEMINGTON, N.J. – Senior
Kevin Sensale roped a ball down the left field line for a walk-off win in game one as the Centenary University baseball team split a doubleheader with Delaware Valley University on Sunday afternoon at Diamond Nation.
Sensale's one-out hit in the bottom of the seventh gave the Cyclones a 4-3 win in game one. The Aggies earned a 13-8 win in game two to secure the split.
Game One Recap (4-3 Centenary Win)
Delaware Valley (1-1) struck first in game one as
Michael Milazzo's RBI single in the top of the third gave the visitors an early advantage.
The Cyclones responded in the bottom half of that frame. Junior
Ryan Jasiecki plated a pair of runs with a triple to the fence in center field.
Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning as the Centenary took a 3-2 lead. The Aggies' run gave on a
Ben Lippincott single to center field. In the bottom of the fourth, senior
Mike Dolan gave the Cyclones the lead back with RBI single up the middle.
Delaware Valley made it a 3-3 game in the top of the fifth.
Luke Hendricks doubled to left center which scored Milazzo.
With the score tied at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Delaware Valley got the first out before sophomore
Jon Fleck reached on a walk. An error by the Aggies allowed the Cyclones to put runners on first and second. After junior
Tyler Lisa went in to run for Fleck, Sensale delivered the game-winning hit for the Cyclones.
Senior
James Graziani earned the win in relief as he threw two innings of one hit ball and struck out one.
Calvin Endy took the loss in relief as he gave up one run in 2.1 innings of work.
Senior
Tim Maxwell and Dolan led the Cyclones with two hits each. Dolan also had a run scored and an RBI. Jasiecki had a pair of RBIs for the Cyclones.
Milazzo led Delaware Valley as he went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored.
Game Two Recap (13-8 Delaware Valley Win)
Delaware Valley jumped out to an early lead in game two with a run in the top of the first and three more in the second.
Sammy Amos knocked in a run in each of the innings while Milazzo added a two run single.
The Cyclones got on the board in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs. Dolan delivered an RBI single for Centenary during that stretch.
Delaware Valley tacked on three runs in the top third and five in the top of the fourth and took a 12-2 advantage. That scoring stretch was highlighted by home runs from
Zakary Zgura and Milazzo.
The Aggies added another run in the top of the fifth and led 13-2.
Centenary put four runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth and made it a 13-6 game. Jasiecki drove his second home run of the season over the left center fence. Senior
Michael Caprari contributed an RBI single before Dolan drove in a pair of runs with a single up the middle.
The Cyclones got two more runs in the sixth inning as Sensale delivered an RBI single and Jasiecki scored on sophomore
Cole Fratesi's fielders choice.
Centenary got two runners on in the bottom of the seventh but was unable to get either home as Delaware Valley claimed the 13-8 victory.
Lippincott earned the win on the mound for Delaware Valley after giving up just two runs in four innings of work. Freshman
William Kramer took the loss after surrendering four runs on five hits in two innings of work.
Sensale went 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, a run scored and an RBI while Dolan was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jasiecki and Caprari each posted two hits and scored two runs.
Amos led Delaware Valley with three hits and two RBIs while Milazzo went 2-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs scored.
The Cyclones will be back in action when they host Utica College in a doubleheader on Friday, March 9 at 12/3 p.m. Those games will be held at Diamond Nation in Flemington, New Jersey.
