Cyclones Earn Doubleheader Split with CCNY

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Senior Michael Caprari had a five hit day to lead the Centenary University baseball team to a doubleheader split with the City College of New York. Caprari had three hits and three RBIs in game one to lead the Cyclones to a 15-13 win. The Beavers bounced back and took game two by a 6-2 score.

Game One Recap (Centenary Win)
The Beavers struck early in game one with three runs in the first inning. Rob Mandich had a two-run double and then came around to score on Anthony Cacchione's double.

The Cyclones got one back in the bottom of the second as Caprari's single plated junior Ryan Jasiecki.

A Mandich sacrifice fly gave CCNY a 4-1 advantage in the top of the third.

Centenary plated four runs in the bottom half of that frame and took a 5-4 edge. Senior Tim Maxwell launched a one-out home run before fellow senior Kevin Sensale drove in a pair with a triple to right field. Caprari's single allowed Sensale to cross the plate.

The Cyclones pushed their lead to 6-4 on an RBI single from sophomore Jon Fleck in the bottom of the fourth.

The fifth inning saw the two teams combine for 15 runs in the frame.

CCNY scored five runs in the top of the fifth. The Beavers' big inning was highlighted by a two-run double from Anthony Sautter.

Centenary responded with nine runs in the bottom half of that inning and took a 15-9 lead. Fleck, Jasiecki and senior Mike Dolan each recorded a two-run single in the frame.

The Beavers scored three runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh but the Cyclones were able to hold on and claim the 15-13 win.

Senior James Graziani earned the win in relief for the Cyclones. He threw three innings and struck out two batters. Trent Alfred took the loss for CCNY after giving up four runs in two thirds of an inning of relief work.

Jasiecki and Sensale each had four hits to lead the Cyclones, who had a season-high 23 hits on the day. Jasiecki scored three times and had an RBI while Sensale had three RBIs and two runs scored. Caprari and Fleck each had three hits and three RBIs in the contest.

Mandich finished with three hits, four RBIs and three runs scored to lead CCNY.

Game Two Recap (CCNY Win)
For the second straight game, CCNY took an early lead as Sautter's single gave the Beavers a 1-0 advantage in the second inning.

CCNY extended its lead to 3-0 with three hits in the fourth inning.

Cacchione had a two run single in the fifth as the visitors held a 5-0 advantage in the contest.

CCNY plated its final run in the top of the sixth as Cooper York had an RBI double.

RBI singles from seniors CJ Lyons and John Tierney allowed the Cyclones to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth but it was not enough as CCNY claimed the 6-2 victory.

Steven Giglio earned the win on the mound for the Beavers in game two. He allowed just three hits in 4.2 innings of work. Junior Casey Brown took the loss for the Cyclones after giving up three runs on seven hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Brandon Gianikos led CCNY at the plate in game two. He was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Caprari paced the Cyclones with two hits in game two.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Friday, March 30 when they travel to SUNY Cobleskill for a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
