Cyclones Take Two from SUNY Cobleskill

MORRISTOWN, N.J. – The Centenary University baseball team swept a doubleheader from SUNY Cobleskill on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Nick Scotto delivered six innings of one run ball to lift the Cyclones to a 6-2 win in the opener. A three run home run from senior Kevin Sensale gave Centenary a 7-4 victory in the nightcap.

Game One Recap (6-2 Centenary Win)
The Cyclones got to work early in game one with a pair of runs in the top of the first. Junior Ryan Jasiecki singled home Sensale before senior Tim Maxwell scored on senior Michael Caprari's RBI groundout.

Centenary took advantage of a pair of errors by SUNY Cobleskill to score two runs in the top of the second and extend its lead to 4-0.

Jasiecki picked up his second RBI of the game in the fourth inning as his double plated senior John Tierney.

SUNY Cobleskill got one run back in the fifth as Jordyn Schwark delivered an RBI double.

Sophomore Jon Fleck gave the Cyclones a 6-1 advantage with an RBI double in the top of the sixth inning.

A balk allowed SUNY Cobleskill to score a run in the bottom of the seventh which made the final score 6-2 in favor of the Cyclones.

Scotto picked up his first win of the season on the mound after giving up just one run on three hits in six innings. Freshman Justin Velez surrendered one run in relief work. Devin Lewis took the loss for SUNY Cobleskill after giving up six runs on nine hits.

Jasiecki paced the Cyclones at the plate with three hits and two RBIs while Sensale had two hits and two runs scored.

Eddy Garcia had a hit and scored both runs for SUNY Cobleskill.

Game Two Recap (7-4 Centenary Win)
The Cyclones struck first in game two as Caprari had a one out double in the second and scored as senior CJ Lyons reached on an error.

SUNY Cobleskill tied the game in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from Zyere Molinaro.

SUNY Cobleskill added to its lead in the fourth as Garcia drove in a pair of runs with a triple.

Trailing 3-1 in the fifth, Sensale delivered his second home run of the season and Centenary took a 4-3 advantage.

A bases loaded walk to Sensale in the top of the sixth plated Lyons and gave the Cyclones a 5-3 lead in the game.

SUNY Cobleskill made it a 5-4 game in the bottom of the sixth on Corey Tingo's RBI double.

Centenary tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Caprari scored on an error before Tierney drew a bases loaded walk to plate Lyons. Those two runs provided the final insurance as Centenary claimed the 7-4 win.

Freshman Will Kramer earned the win with three innings of relief work while junior Casey Brown picked up the save with an inning of shutdown relief work. Garcia took the loss for SUNY Cobleskill after giving up four runs in relief.

Sensale led Centenary with a hit and four RBIs while Caprari had a hit and two runs scored.

Tingo had two hits for SUNY Cobleskill.

Centenary returns to action when it hosts John Jay College at Morristown-Beard on Saturday, March 31 at noon.
