KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Senior
Carolyn Clites went 4-for-7 with a pair of runs scored as the Centenary University softball team fell in a pair of games at the Sunkissed Games on Monday in Florida.
Marietta earned a 9-3 win over the Cyclones in the morning game before Wooster secured an 8-0 win in the afternoon contest.
Marietta Recap
Marietta opened up the scoring with a single run in the second inning and extended that advantage to 5-0 with four runs in the fourth inning. Highlighting the big fourth was a bases clearing double from
Kayla Alderson.
The Pioneers added to their advantage with a run in the fifth inning and two more in the sixth for an 8-0.
Mikayla Mayle drove in a pair of runs, which gave her three RBIs for the game.
The Cylones broke through with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Freshman
Suley Perez reached on an error which allowed Clites to score. Fellow freshman
Tessa Ferentinos followed that with a bases loaded walk which scored senior
Sammie Darling.
Marietta extended its lead to 9-2 with a sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.
Centenary capped the scoring in the bottom of that frame as sophomore
Juli Wright drove a single up the middle to plate Clites and made the final score 9-3.
Hannah Richardson took the win for the Pioneers after giving up two runs on six hits in 5.1 innings of work. Darling gave up five runs in 3.1 innings before giving way to freshman
Samantha Gabriele who gave up four runs in three innings.
Mayle led Marietta after going 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
Clites paced the Cyclones as she was 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Wright went 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Wooster Recap
Wooster scored six runs in the first two innings to grab the early advantage on the Cyclones.
Heidi Likins had a two run double down the left field line to highlight the scoring for the Fighting Scots.
Wooster tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 8-0 win. Likins had a sacrifice fly while
Chelsea Copley added an RBI single.
The top three batters in the Centenary line-up each recorded a hit in the game. For Clites it was her fourth base knock of the day.
Marissa Norgrove earned the win for Wooster after giving up just one hit in three innings of work. Darling surrendered six runs in four innings for the Cyclones.
Maddy Chase had three hits, a run scored and an RBI out of the leadoff spot for Wooster.
The Cyclones will be back in action when they wrap up their Florida trip with a pair of games on Wednesday, March 14. Centenary will face Beloit and William Patterson before heading north.
