Cyclones Fall in a Pair of Contests to Close out Spring Break Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Seniors Carolyn Clites and Ashley Eisenstein each recorded three hits to lead the Centenary University softball team on the final day of their spring break trip in Florida. The Cyclones suffered a hard fought loss to Beloit College, 15-2 and then fell to William Paterson by an 18-1 margin.

The Bucs jumped out to an early advantage with a single run in the top of the first. Beloit added four runs in the top of the second inning for the 5-0 advantage. Ashley Lambert had a two-run home run to highlight the offense for the Bucs.

Beloit added to its advantage by plating three runs in the top of the fourth and seven more in the top of the seventh. Alyssa Morris drove a grand slam over the fence in left field as the Bucs took a 15-0 advantage.

Centenary got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Suley Perez reached on a single and came around to score on sophomore Justine Stefura's one-out double. Stefura crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Clites.

Kenzie Roberts earned the win in the circle for Beloit. Roberts surrendered just two runs in five innings of work. Senior Sammie Darling took the loss after giving up eight runs on 11 hits in 3.1 innings of work.

Lambert and Morris led Beloit with three hits each in the game. Lambert added four RBIs and three runs scored while Morris finished with five RBIs and a run scored.

Eistenstein and Clites led Centenary with two hits each.

William Paterson Recap
Game two of the day saw the Cyclones once again facing a team that had the hot bats early. The Pioneers scored seven first inning runs as Christine Griffith and Eleni Lutas each drove in a pair of runs.

The Pioneers tacked on six runs in the third inning and took a 13-0 lead in the contest. Susan Mather had a two-run triple and came around to score on Kara Molnar's single.

Centenary got on the board with a run in the top of the fourth inning. The Cyclones strung together three straight base knocks to get their run. Clites' single to center field scored Stefura.

The Pioneers capped the scoring with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, which made the final score 18-1.

Andee Lupica earned the win for the Pioneers after giving up just one run in four innings of work. Darling suffered her second loss of the day after giving up 13 runs in three innings.

Griffith finished with two hits, two runs scored and five RBIs for William Paterson while Mather went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Clites had a hit and an RBI for the Cyclones while Stefura recorded a hit and a run scored.

The Cyclones return north and will play their home opener on Wednesday, March 21 when they host Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
