READING, Pa. – Junior
Chris Snow and freshman
Kyle Mott combined for eight goals and four assists to lead the Centenary University men's lacrosse team to a 14-2 win at Alvernia University on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cyclones (1-1) exploded out of the gate and scored six first quarter goals. Mott and Snow accounted for three goals and two assists in the period. Sophomore
Gregory Weiss added a pair of first quarter tallies as Centenary out shot Alvernia (0-2) 14-3.
Alvernia got on the board to start the second quarter with a goal from
Jarret Abernethy. The Cyclones responded with a pair of goals and took an 8-1 lead with 8:27 to go in the second period. Senior
Nolan Gottshall scored an unassisted goal and picked up the helper on Mott's man-up goal.
Alvernia made it an 8-2 game at the half as
Zach Brommer scored off an assist from
Jake Hiester.
Mott and Snow both completed their hat tricks in the third quarter. Mott's goal came at 12:28 off a pass from senior
Spencer Stachowiak. The freshman then picked up the helper on Snow's goal which made it a 10-2 game in favor of the visitors.
Those two third quarter goals were part of a 6-0 run by the Cyclones to close out the game. Freshman
Nick Biango scored the first two goals of his career in the fourth quarter while Snow added a goal and an assist. Centenary claimed the 14-2 win for its first victory of the year.
Centenary finished with a 46-30 advantage in shots in the game and held a 32-23 edge in ground balls. The Cyclones won 18-of-20 faceoffs in the game. Centenary scored five man-up goals in the game.
Freshman
Wayne Safreed made 15 saves to earn his first win of the year in goal. Sophomore
Noah Jones made four saves in relief work.
Jacob O'Donnell made 14 saves in the loss for Alvernia.
Mott and Snow finished with four goals and two assists each for the Cyclones. Gottshall contributed two goals, two assists and four ground balls. Biango and Weiss each added two goals in the game. Sophomore
Chris Howell won 17-of-19 faceoffs and corralled 14 ground balls.
Abernethy finished with a goal and three ground balls for Alvernia.
The Cyclones are back in action when they host Drew University in their home opener on Saturday, March 3 at noon.
