HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The No. 18 Centenary University wrestling team earned a dominating 52-5 win over Hunter College of Friday night in the John M. Reeves Student Recreation Center. With the win, the Cyclones tied the 2010-11 team for the best single-season record in school history at 12-2.
Centenary honored its lone senior,
Max Nauta prior to the start of the match.
Centenary picked up wins in nine of the 10 weight classes.
The Cyclones got their night off to a solid start with falls at 125 and 133 pounds.
Tyreek Staton took down Hamad Amir in 2:24 while
Bobby Demeter pinned Elliott Natanov in 1:22.
Other highlights on the night for Centenary included
Alec Donovan picking up a major decision, 11-0 over William Heine at 165 pounds.
Jordan Juliano recorded the Cyclones' third fall of the night win 1:19 at 174 pounds while
Jeremy Parkhurst needed just 53 seconds to pin his opponent at 184 pounds.
Nauta (141),
Christopher Muce (149),
Etiini Udott (197) and
Anthony Colabella (285) all picked up wins by forfeit for Centenary.
Muce would later earn an exhibition win with a fall in 2:58.
The Cyclones, who have won nine straight dual matches, will be back in action when they compete in the NCAA Division III East Regionals in Ithaca, New York. The action gets underway on Feb. 24 at 10 a.m.
