LA PLUME, Pa. – The Centenary University men's basketball team scored 43 points in the second half but it was not enough to overcome a 14-point halftime deficit as Keystone College claimed the 70-61 victory in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) play. Freshman
Chris LaBelle posted his sixth straight game with 20 or more points to lead the Cyclones.
Keystone got off to a quick start in the game. The Giants scored the first 11 points of the contest and took a 17-3 lead on
Terrence Palmer's lay-up at 15:27. The two teams continued to battle as sharp-shooting Keystone took a 32-18 lead at the half.
Keystone opened the second on a 10-5 run and took a 42-23 lead with 15:44 to play.
Perry Belcher had six points during that stretch for the home team.
The two teams continued to battle as a lay-up from Palmer gave Keystone a 51-26 lead with 10:59 left in the stanza.
An 8-2 run by the Cyclones made it a 53-34 game with 7:42 to go in the game. LaBelle had six points for Centenary during that stretch.
Keystone scored four straight points before the Cyclones used a 12-4 run to make it a 61-46 game. LaBelle accounted for eight points during that stretch while sophomore
Greg Robinson knocked down a three-pointer.
Centenary scored 15 of the final 24 points in the game which made the final score 70-61.
Keystone shot 46.2 percent from the field and knocked down six three-pointers. The Giants made just 4-of-11 chances from the foul line. Centenary posted a 31.8 field goal percentage and connected on nine three-pointers. The Cyclones were 10-for-18 from the foul line.
LaBelle had a game-high 21 points in 29 minutes of action to lead the Cyclones. Freshman
Michael Young added nine points while freshmen
Jalen Horsley and
Larry Joseph each had seven points and six rebounds.
Palmer had 10 points and six rebounds for Keystone.
The Cyclones wrap up their 2017-18 campaign when they travel to Gwynedd Mercy on Saturday, Feb. 17 for a 3 p.m. game.
