HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Sophomore
Julie Pankowski grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to lead the Centenary University women's basketball team in its home opener against Ramapo on Tuesday night.
The Roadrunners jumped out to a 12 point first quarter lead and earned a 58-32 win over the Cyclones.
The Cyclones struck first following the opening tip as freshman
Taylor Bossert knocked down a triple. However, Ramapo responded with a 10-0 run behind four points each from
Tia Solomon and
Jessica Repasy. The Roadrunners took a 19-7 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Roadrunners continued to push the pace and took a 38-16 lead at the break.
The third quarter started much like the first with a Bossert triple. Junior
Katie Alvarez struck for four points in the stanza as Ramapo took a 48-23 lead after three.
Freshman
Jessica McKenzie scored the first four points of the fourth quarter for the Cyclones. The two teams continued to battle and traded points as Ramapo earned the 58-32 win.
The Roadrunners shot 41.7 percent from the floor while the Cyclones shot 26.8 percent. Centenary dominated the rebounding battle with a 41-28 edge as eight of the 11 players that saw action in the game grabbed at least two boards.
Bossert had nine points and two rebounds for the Cyclones while McKenzie finished with six points and seven rebounds. Freshman
Carly Tarnowski added six points.
Ramapo was led by Solomon and
Samantha Rinaldi who had 12 points each.
Centenary is back in action when it hosts the College of Saint Elizabeth on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
