Volleyball Battles in CSAC Action versus Bryn Athyn

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – Freshman Amelia Rodriguez had four kills, four assists and three digs to lead the Centenary University volleyball team against Bryn Athyn on Saturday morning in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

The Lions took the sets by 25-15, 25-14, and 25-16 scores for the 3-0 victory.

Bryn Athyn jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the first set but the Cyclones rallied back as a service ace from freshman Zaairah Lamothe pulled the Cyclones to within one, 6-5. A kill from junior Nicauris Veras had the home team trailing by just one, 11-10. Bryn Athyn used a 6-1 run to break open a close set and eventually claimed victory.

The Cyclones scored the first three points of the second set. That early scoring spurt was highlighted a kill and a service ace from senior Melissa Krueger. A kill from junior Katie Alvarez pushed the Centenary lead to 7-5. A 9-2 run for the Lions followed as the visitors rallied to take the lead and eventually win the set.

The Lions jumped out to an early lead in the third set as the visitors scored the first four points. Centenary had a 7-1 run late in the set as the run was highlighted by a pair of service aces from senior Giani Montalvo but the Lions held on for the set win and the match victory.

In addition to Rodriguez's balanced stat line, the Cyclones got four kills and eight digs from Alvarez. Krueger contributed nine assists, five digs and a pair of service aces while junior Brielle Gensinger had six digs.

Hannah Dewees led Bryn Athyn with nine kills while Jenessa Lombardi finished with 24 assists.

The Cyclones are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 as they travel to Rosemont for a 7 p.m. match.
