Cartaino's Career Night Leads Centenary Over Cedar Crest, 63-45

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Senior Nicole Cartaino poured in a career-high 27 points to lead the Centenary University women's basketball team to a 63-45 win at Cedar Crest University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday night.

Fellow senior Amber Reisenwitz contributed 16 points, 13 of which came from the foul line. The guard was 13-for-20 from the charity stripe and is tied for the second most free throws made in Centenary single-game history.

After spotting Cedar Crest the first basket of the game, the Cyclones used a 7-0 run to take a 7-2 advantage with 6:13 to go in the period. Cartaino scored four of the seven points during that stretch. The two teams traded points before the Cyclones closed the quarter on a 7-0 run and took a 16-8 lead after 10 minutes of action.

Centenary opened the second quarter on a 10-3 run and took a 26-11 lead with 3:10 to go in the stanza. Cartaino struck for five during that run while Reisenwitz added three points. Cedar Crest got a late bucket from Sylera Weller as Centenary took a 28-13 lead at the half.

A traditional three-point play from Cartaino to open the third quarter gave the Cyclones a 31-13 lead with 9:33 showing on the clock. The two sides battled back-and-forth as a jumper from freshman Danika Brandt at 6:16 gave the visitors a 35-15 advantage. The Cyclones and Falcons traded points as a jumper from senior Julia Presant gave Centenary a 44-25 lead after three periods of play.

The two teams went back-and-forth throughout the fourth quarter but the Cyclones were able to maintain their double-digit advantage throughout. Centenary took its largest lead of the game at 1:25 as freshman Julie Pankowski hit a jumper. That bucket gave the Cyclones a 22-point advantage, 60-38. Centenary went on to claim the 63-45 victory.

Centenary shot 46.2 percent from the floor and was a solid 25-of-37 from the foul line. Cedar Crest posted a 21.7 field goal percentage and was 15-for-22 from the charity stripe. The Falcons held a 37-35 edge in the rebounding battle.

Cartaino was 9-for-13 from the field and also added nine points from the foul line for the Cyclones. It was her third game this season with 20 or more points. Reisenweitz added four rebounds to go along with her 16 points while Presant added six points and six rebounds.

Weller led Cedar Crest with 22 points and six rebounds.

The Cyclones will be back in action when they return home to host Immaculata on Saturday, Feb. 3 at 1 p.m.
