ROSEMONT, Pa. – All five starters scored in double figures to lead the Centenary University women's basketball team to an 88-79 win at Rosemont College on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. The Cyclones (7-10, 5-3 CSAC) scored a season-high 88 points and have won five of their last seven games.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth battle that saw the two squads fight through three ties and three lead changes. Rosemont used a 10-0 run to take a 21-12 lead with 32 seconds left in the stanza. The Ravens hit four three-pointers in a run that turned a one-point deficit into a nine-point advantage.
Jasmyn Parker hit a pair of three-pointers for Rosemont during that stretch.
Amber Reisenwitz hit a pair of free throws for the Cyclones with five seconds left in the period but Rosemont took a 21-14 lead after one period of play.
Rosemont opened the second quarter on a 6-2 run and led 27-16 with 6:34 to go before the half. Centenary responded by scoring 17 of the final 21 points in the period and took a 33-31 lead at the half.
Rachel Edwards scored six points for the Cyclones during that run while
Julie Pankowski tallied four points.
Centenary opened the third quarter on a 10-2 run and led 43-33 with 7:07 to go in the period.
Nicole Cartaino and Reisenwitz each had four points during that key scoring stretch. The two teams traded baskets as a three-pointer from Edwards pushed the Centenary advantage to 11, 48-37 with 5:04 left in the period. The Cyclones continued to maintain the hot shooting hand as Pankowski's jumper at 1:40 gave the visitors a 56-42 lead. Another jumper from Pankowski allowed Centenary to take a 60-48 lead with 10 minutes to play.
The Cyclones took their largest lead of the game at 65-48 as Reisenwitz knocked down a jumper at 8:15 of the fourth quarter. The two teams traded baskets as they went back-and-forth on both ends of the floor. Rosemont used an 11-3 run to cut the Cyclones' lead to six, 80-74 with 1:15 to play. Parker led the Ravens with five points during that run. Centenary was a perfect six-for-six from the foul line in the final minute plus to seal the 88-79 victory.
Centenary shot 56.5 percent from the field and was an impressive 35-for-43 (81.4%) from the foul line. The Cyclones hit 18-of-24 chances from the charity stripe in the fourth quarter. Rosemond posted a 46.2 field goal percentage and was 12-for-17 from the foul line. Both teams grabbed 32 rebounds in the game.
Edwards posted her second straight game with 20 or more points as she had a team-high 20 points and added six rebounds. Reisenwitz had a career-high 19 points and nine rebounds while Pankowski finished with a season-high 17 points. Cartaino contributed 17 points while
Julia Presant added 10 points. The Cyclones did a solid job sharing the basketball as they had 15 assists and all five starters had at least two helpers.
Parker led Rosemont as she finished with a game-high 22 points and six rebounds.
The Cyclones will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 24 when they host Clarks Summit at 6 p.m.
