Warne Makes Four Saves as Men’s Soccer Blanked by King’s College

WILKES BARRE, Pa. (Sept. 2, 2017)- Junior Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made four saves as the Centenary University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference match to King's College 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.

Liam McLaughlin scored both goals for the Monarchs who improve to 1-1 overall. Senior Justin White (Minehill, N.J. / Dover) tallied three shots for the Cyclones who fall to 0-2 overall.

Despite the shots and shots on goal being even, King's seemed to score both goals on Cyclone miscues. The Monarchs capitalized on Warne's mishandling of a cross in front of the net, allowing McLaughlin to tap it in for the score. Owen Geedey also played a key role in keeping Centenary scoreless in the opening stanza as he made five saves on all five shots.  King's held the 1-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, both teams traded possession of the ball as the Cyclones were able to get off shots, but couldn't convert on any of them.  Centenary's best chance to score came on a corner kick in the 84th minute from junior Sebastian Hernandez (Dover, N.J. / Dover). Hernandez played a ball into the box and fellow classmate Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick), headed it towards net, but it clanged off the crossbar.

The Monarchs added one more for good measure with a score in the 89th minute.
Cameron tallied four shots, while senior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) recorded two in the loss for Centenary.  Daniel Lorandini took four shots for King's.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action in Bethlehem, Pa. on Wednesday, Sept. 6th against the Greyhounds of Moravian College at 4:00 p.m.
