Miller Nets Lone Goal as Men’s Soccer Downed by Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (Sept. 6, 2017)- Sophomore Matt Miller (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) scored the lone goal as the Centenary University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest to the Greyhounds of Moravian College, 3-1 on Wednesday afternoon.

Ethan Blakely, Alec Aloia and William Demmel each scored a goal for the Greyhounds who improve to 3-0 overall. Junior Devon Warne (Belvidere, N.J. / Belvidere) made four saves for the Cyclones who fall to 0-3 overall.

Centenary played from behind for most of the afternoon as the Greyhounds netted two goals in the opening 27 minutes. Moravian used the momentum to propel them into halftime with a 2-0 lead, while only allowing three Cyclone shots.

In the second stanza, the Cyclones cut the Greyhounds advantage in half as Miller notched his first goal of the season, off a free kick from junior Sebastian Hernandez (Dover, N.J. / Dover), in the 51st minute. Hernandez played the free kick opportunity into the box and Miller used his 6-1 frame to head the ball in for the score.

The Clones attempted to capitalize on their momentum and even the contest at 2-2, but shots by junior Josh Weiss (Hackettstown, N.J. / Hackettstown) and Hernandez were stopped by Greyhounds netminder Bryan Yaskowski. Moravian would eventually add an insurance goal in the 69th minute for the 3-1 lead.

Hernandez, Weiss and senior Richy Castro (Landing, N.J. / Roxbury) each attempted two shots apiece, while Miller and senior Daniel Lamanna (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) each tallied one. Connor Phillips totaled a game-high five shots, while Yaskowski made three saves and recorded the victory.

Head Coach Keith O'Connor and the Cyclones will return to action in Allentown, Pa. on Saturday, Sept. 9th against the Mules of Muhlenberg College 7:00 p.m.
