HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Sept. 27, 2017)- Juniors
Melissa Krueger (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) and
Valentina Suizzo (North Haledon, N.J. / Eastern Christian) combined for eight digs as the Centenary University volleyball team was swept by Cabrini University 3-0 (25-2, 25-4, 25-7) on Wednesday evening.
Steph Judkins finished with nine aces for the Cavaliers who improve to 12-3 overall and 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Kreguer added two assists, while Suizzo tallied one kill for the Cyclones who fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC.
The four-time defending CSAC champion Cavs completely dominated the opening two sets with a .714 and a .471 hitting percentage. Judkins tallied her nine aces in the first set alone, as she served for 20 straight points.
The Cyclones remained competitive to start the third set, when a kill by sophomore
Nicci Veras (Newark, N.J. / Shabazz) and an ace for follow classmate
Storm Spooner (South Brunswick, N.J. / South Brunswick) gave the Clones a 3-2 advantage. Â The set remained tied at 6-6, but Cabrini closed the match with Kassie Ockford serving for 12 straight points. Â
Freshman
Leandra Garcia (Plainfield, N.J. / Central Jersey College Prep) collected a kill, while sophomore
Brielle Gensinger (Blairstown, N.J. / Warren County Tech.) recorded an ace for the Cyclones. Olivia Blakenbiller finished with 22 assists, while Kaylee Plisinki totaled seven kills and Kristen Betterman collected seven digs.
