Muff Scores Four as Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Nationally Ranked Cabrini

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Apr. 8, 2017)- Junior Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) totaled four points on four goals as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team fell to nationally ranked Cabrini University, 20-4 on Saturday afternoon.

Evan Downey totaled six points on four goals and two assists for the No. 14 Cavaliers who improve to 7-3 overall and 3-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) totaled five saves for the Cyclones who fall to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC.

The Cavs opened the contest with three unanswered, including two from Downey, before Muff scored the first goal of the afternoon for Centenary. Cabrini responded with 12 unanswered, including 10 goals in the second quarter alone to propel them to a 15-1 lead at halftime.

Muff added another two late in the third quarter, including an assisted score from fellow classmate Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) to end the quarter.
Cabrini maintained an 18-3 lead entering the fourth quarter. In the final quarter, Muff scored again off an assist from senior Michael Balsamo (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) .

11 different Cavaliers tallied a point for the Cavaliers who extended their conference winning streak to an NCAA record 105 games.

Senior Luke Tremont (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) totaled five groundballs, while junior Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) finished with four groundballs and two caused turnovers. Balsamo and sophomore Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) both totaled three groundballs, while freshman Noah Jones (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) made three saves in 30 minutes between the pipes.

Muff is now three points shy of 100 career points, after entering the contest with 93 points.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action in La Plume, Pa. on Wednesday, Apr. 12, against the Giants of Keystone College at 4:00 p.m.
