LA PLUME, Pa. (Apr. 12, 2017)- 11 Different Cyclones tallied at least one point as the Centenary University men's lacrosse team snapped a three game losing streak with a 25-1 victory over Keystone College on Wednesday afternoon.
Junior
Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) recorded his 100
th career point with seven points on five goals and two assists for the Cyclones who improve to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Alec Lloyd scored the lone goal for the Giants who fall to 1-9 overall and 0-4 in the CSAC.
Centenary dominated the contest from the opening whistle to the final buzzer, scoring 18 unanswered goals in the first 39 minutes of the game. The Cyclones led 15-0 at halftime with goals by eight different players, including first career goals by junior
Nick Fox (Dresher, Pa. / LaSalle College), freshman
Michael Hogan (Allentown, N.J. / Allentown) and freshman
Nick Bogert (Islip Terrace, N.Y. / St. John the Baptist) . Hogan netted his first career hat-trick along with Muff, who tallied his 100
th point with a goal just before halftime.
The Cyclones also got two goals apiece in the opening stanza from junior
Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East), senior
Luke Tremont (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township), and freshman
Robert Amanto (Avon Grove, Pa / Avon Grove). Amanto and Gottshall each assisted on three goals, while sophomore
Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) chipped in with two assists.
Snow tallied a hat-trick of his own in the second half, as the Cyclones continued to roll over the Giants. Muff and Amanto added another two while, junior
James Iwanicki (Gloucester, Mass. / Ipswich) scored just his second goal of the season and freshman
Gregory Weiss (Long Valley, N.J. / West Morris Central) also found the net for the first goal of his career.
Centenary took 72 shots, which set a single game team record, breaking the previous record set against Alvernia (67) on Feb. 27, 2013. Freshman
Chris Howell ( Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) went 24-for-29 on faceoffs with eight groundballs, which sets a new single game record for faceoffs won, surpassing the old mark set by
Josh Caven (19) on Apr. 21, 2012 against Rosemont.
Centenary also tallied 46 shots on goal, 60 groundballs and went 21-for-23 on clears. Freshman
Jon Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) finished with four points on two goals and two assists, while scooping up 11 groundballs. Gottshall finished with nine groundballs and three caused turnovers, while junior
Kyle Purcell (Islip, N.Y. / Islip) tallied five groundballs and three caused turnovers. Sophomore
Jon Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) totaled four groundballs and three caused turnovers, while freshman
Patrick Fitzgerald (East Brunswick, N.J./ East Brunswick) finished with two groundballs and one caused turnover.
