Gottshall Collects Hat-Trick as Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Washington College (MD) in Non-Conference Clash.


HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. (Apr. 15, 2017)- Junior Nolan Gottshall (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River East) totaled three points on three goals for the Centenary University men's lacrosse team who dropped a non-conference contest to Washington College, 23-6 on Saturday afternoon.

Cooper Sloan finished with seven points on five assists and two goals for the Shoreman who improve to 9-4 overall. Seniors Luke Tremont (Vernon, N.J. / Vernon Township) and Michael Balsamo (Jackson, N.J. / Jackson Memorial) along with junior Michael Muff (Havertown, Pa. / Haverford) each scored a goal for the Cyclones who fall to 5-5 overall.   

Washington College led 9-0 midway through the second quarter, when Balsamo scored off an assist from freshman Robert Amanto (Avon Grove, Pa / Avon Grove). The Shoreman put together a 10 goal second period that propelled them to a 16-1 halftime advantage.

Gottshall would net all three of his goals in the second stanza, as including back-to-back goals in the third. Muff opened the scoring for Centenary in the second half with an assisted goal from sophomore Chris Snow (Roxbury, N.J. / Roxbury) with 8:49 remaining.

Washington College stretched their lead to 21-4, before Tremont scored his only goal of the afternoon with 11:08 remaining in the fourth.

Junior Spencer Stachowiak (Bel Air, Md. / Bel Air) finished with three groundballs and two caused turnovers, while freshmen Chris Howell (Bear, Del. / Delaware Military Academy) and Jon Manzo (Manahawkin, N.J. / Southern Regional) each recorded three groundballs. Muff, junior James Iwanicki (Gloucester, Mass. / Ipswich), Balsamo, and junior Nick Fox (Dresher, Pa. / LaSalle College) each scooped up two groundballs. Sophomore Chris Cameron (Waldwick, N.J. / Waldwick) and freshman Noah Jones (Rising Sun, Md. / Rising Sun) each made six saves in 30 minutes of work between the pipes.

Head Coach Matthew Klank and the Cyclones will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 19th, hosting the Mighty Macs of Immaculata University for senior day at 4:00 p.m. Before the game, Coach Klank and his staff will honor seniors Alex Samilow (Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon), Tremont and Balsamo.
